IT Specialist

GNP Global Business Consultants

The IT Specialist is accountable for the reliable, secure, and well-documented operation of GNP’s internal technology environment while also delivering practical IT and digital advisory services to clients. The role spans end-user support, cloud and workplace technology, identity and access, networks, endpoint security, data protection, vendor coordination and client project delivery. The successful candidate will translate technical issues into business-relevant options, recommend solutions proportionate to client needs and risk, and support adoption—not just deployment. The role also contributes technical expertise to proposals and the development of repeatable advisory offerings. It includes occasional client meetings and site visits, with travel within Kenya as required. Internal priorities and client commitments should be planned transparently with the reporting manager.

Key Responsibilities

 Company overview

GNP Global Business Consultants provides strategic advisory, operational support and business-optimisation solutions to clients across a range of industries. GNP combines practical implementation support with clear, actionable advice tailored to each client’s operating context.

 Key responsibilities

1. Internal IT operations — GNP

  • Provide responsive first-line support to staff; diagnose, resolve or appropriately escalate issues involving laptops, mobile devices, printers, software and office technology. Log requests, track progress, communicate expected resolution and document recurring issues.
  • Provision and administer staff accounts, email, collaboration platforms and cloud services. Apply role-appropriate access, multi-factor authentication and least-privilege principles; maintain accurate access records and complete onboarding and offboarding promptly.
  • Prepare and secure workstations for new hires, including approved software, configuration, access and user guidance. Maintain endpoint protection, operating-system and application updates, and secure device lifecycle practices.
  • Maintain office network, Wi-Fi and internet connectivity; monitor service issues and coordinate with internet, telecommunications and technology providers. Escalate outages and communicate operational impact.
  • Operate and periodically test backup and recovery arrangements; maintain practical recovery documentation and escalate gaps that could affect business continuity.
  • Maintain an accurate IT asset register, software and licence records, warranties and renewal dates. Coordinate equipment purchases, renewals and vendor service matters with the Procurement and Administrative Coordinator.
  • Develop and maintain proportionate IT procedures and policies, including acceptable use, access control, data handling, incident escalation and secure remote working. Support alignment with the Data Protection Act, 2019 and applicable Kenyan requirements; refer legal interpretation to qualified counsel.
  • Keep clear, current documentation of systems, configurations, procedures, support resolutions and material incidents. Provide a monthly update to the Head of Business Development covering service status, availability, incidents, security actions, open risks and IT costs.

2. Client IT and digital advisory

  • Understand a client’s objectives, operating context and constraints; assess relevant IT systems, infrastructure, cloud and workplace tools, support arrangements and security practices using a proportionate, risk-based approach.
  • Produce concise, evidence-based findings and prioritized recommendations that explain business impact, options, dependencies, indicative effort and practical next steps in language suitable for decision-makers.
  • Advise on fit-for-purpose business software, cloud services, collaboration platforms and technology vendors. Keep recommendations vendor-neutral, transparent about assumptions, and aligned to the client’s budget, maturity, security needs, and capacity to adopt.
  • Support client technology projects such as system selection, migration, implementation, rollout, and service improvement. Coordinate with the client’s internal IT team and external providers, track actions and risks, and escalate scope or delivery concerns early.
  • Provide practical training and change-adoption support for managers and staff so that new systems and digital practices are understood, used securely and embedded in day-to-day work.
  • Contribute to scoping engagements, work plans, effort estimates and fee inputs with the Head of Business Development. Confirm deliverables and dependencies, manage time against agreed scope, document decisions and raise proposed changes before proceeding.
  • Protect client confidentiality and handle client information, credentials and access in accordance with GNP procedures and the client’s requirements. Use approved channels and access only the information needed for the engagement.
  • Identify matters that exceed the role’s technical or professional remit—including legal interpretation, specialized security testing, or high-impact architecture decisions—and recommend appropriate specialist review.

3. Business development and modern practice

  • Identify potential client needs and contribute technical content, solution outlines, assumptions and estimates to proposals, quotations and presentations. Explain GNP’s IT advisory services clearly and accurately.
  • Advise on process automation and the responsible use of AI-enabled tools. Before recommending a tool, consider data sensitivity, privacy, security, access, accuracy, bias, human review, vendor terms, and the client’s intended use. Do not place confidential or personal data in unapproved tools.
  • Create and maintain reusable assessment checklists, report structures, implementation plans, training materials and practical toolkits that improve consistency and quality across engagements.
  • Keep technical knowledge current through professional learning and share relevant developments, risks and good practice with GNP colleagues.

4. Other duties

Undertake other reasonable duties, projects and tasks assigned from time to time, consistent with the role and business needs.

  • Integrity: Handles confidential business, client and system-access information responsibly and demonstrates discretion, professionalism and accountability.
  • Certifications: Relevant professional certifications (for example, CompTIA, Microsoft, Cisco, IT service management, cloud, or ISO 27001) are an advantage; no single certification is mandatory.
